It recently came to our attention that many users misunderstood how the colored bubbles in the Attestation screen are intended to work.
Contrary to what many think, they DO NOT represent how close the status change was to the PU or DO location.
The indicator is green, but the status update is 38 miles away from the Pickup address, because this is NOT us saying “This update is right at the location. Use this information for attestation.”. This feature never actually looks at the PU or DO locations, just the GPS pings from RB Mobile.
What DO these colors represent?
The red, yellow, and green indicators actually represent how confident we are that the information that we collected is accurate.
RB Mobile records a location ping roughly every 30 seconds. When determining how confident we are that a status update was accurate, we will look at the pings recorded a few minutes before and a few minutes after the status update and evaluate how many there are, as well as how close they are to the status update.
So even though our example trip was marked Arrived 38 miles away from where it should have been, we’re pretty confident the driver was actually where his status update was recorded. After zooming in on the status update you can see we come to this conclusion because there are near a dozen pings in the immediate area of where he made the status update within just a few minutes.
Compare that to this example of a red indicator. There’s only one 30 second ping near this status update, making us less confident in the accuracy of the ping.
Since these colors DON’T mean the ping was at the correct location, are you expected to click every icon and visually inspect each status update locations before attesting to MAS?
No. As you probably know, the gray indicators represent status updates with no GPS data. These cannot be attested to through RoutingBox and must be done on MAS website. So, a relatively simple solution would be for you to use the Tracker Audit feature to remove the pings from trips that you wouldn’t want to attest to.
To do this you’ll just need to decide how far from a PU or DO location considered too far and enter that as the Distance in Feet on the Audit screen. (We are using 500 feet in this example, but it’s up to the customer's discretion). Refresh to load the trips into the grid, then right click and choose Remove GPS Ping Data. These trips will now have gray indicators in the Attestation screen so the users can clearly tell which trips they wanted to attest to manually.
