RoutingBox Driver Assist Overview

Driver Assist

Driver Assist helps automate trip milestone updates by using GPS data to detect when a driver arrives at or departs from key locations. This feature reduces manual effort, improves accuracy, and supports compliance with broker reporting requirements. While not intended to replace driver interaction with the trip, it does help reduce statuses missed due to driver error.

Driver Assist is only available on app version 2.9.376 and later. As a best practice, it is helpful to regularly update the app as updates become available.

Requirements

To ensure Driver Assist functions properly, all of the following conditions must be met:

  1. The driver must manually start the trip by setting the status to EnRoute to Pickup.

  2. The driver must record their signature before the trip can automatically update to Completed.

  3. The driver’s device must maintain active GPS and Internet connectivity during the trip.

Driver Assist automates status updates under specific conditions. Keep the following in mind:

  • Driver Assist is not supported in Offline Mode.

  • If a transportation provider requires odometer readings, drivers must continue to enter those manually.

Statuses Supported

Driver Assist can automatically update the following trip statuses when enabled:

  • Arrived at Pickup (PU)

  • EnRoute to Dropoff (DO)

  • Arrived at Dropoff (DO)

  • Completed

How It Works

Driver Assist uses geo-fenced stop areas— with a 1000-foot radius (default)—to detect when a driver arrives at or leaves a pickup or dropoff location. This can be adjusted or deactivated by connecting with your Customer Experience Manager.

Once the trip has been started:

  1. Entering the pickup or dropoff geo-fence automatically triggers the Arrived statuses.

  2. Leaving that geo-fence (after marking Arrived) triggers the next EnRoute status for that trip.

  3. When the driver departs the dropoff zone, if they have recorded their signature, the system will automatically mark the trip as Completed.

Examples:

Scenario 1: A driver starts the trip and enters the pickup zone → Driver Assist sets Arrived at Pickup.
The driver leaves the zone  → Driver Assist sets EnRoute to Dropoff.
Upon entering the dropoff zone → Driver Assist sets Arrived at Dropoff.
If a signature has been recorded prior to departing the dropoff zone → the trip automatically updates to Completed.

Scenario 2: A driver starts the trip and enters the pickup zone → Driver Assist sets Arrived at Pickup.
The driver sets the status to EnRoute to Dropoff as client is loaded→ Driver Assist does nothing upon exiting  the pickup zone.
Upon entering the dropoff zone → Driver Assist sets Arrived at Dropoff.
If a signature has been recorded prior to departing the dropoff zone → the trip automatically updates to Completed.

Scenario 3: A driver forgets to start the trip and enters pickup zone → Driver Assist does not apply as there is not a trip in progress.
The driver leaves the zone without starting the trip → Driver Assist does not apply as there is not a trip in progress.                                                                                                                            Driver realizes trip has not been started and then starts trip, and updates status to EnRoute to Dropoff.                                                                                                                                                 Upon entering the dropoff zone  → Driver Assist sets Arrived at Dropoff.
If a signature has been recorded prior to departing the dropoff zone → the trip automatically updates to Completed.

Scenario 4A driver starts the trip within the Pickup zone and does not mark Arrived at Pickup → Driver Assist sets Arrived at Pickup.

Scenario 5A Driver never starts the trip → Driver Assist will not activate for the trip.

Scenario 6: A driver starts the trip and enters the pickup zone → Driver Assist sets Arrived at Pickup.
The driver leaves the zone  → Driver Assist sets EnRoute to Dropoff.
Upon entering the dropoff zone → Driver Assist sets Arrived at Dropoff.
The driver does not record a signature → the trip does not automatically update to Completed.
